Blackmailing, stalking, harassment: Hyderabad SHE Teams receive 103 complaints in Nov; 26 accused booked

Blackmailing, stalking, harassment: Hyderabad SHE Teams receive 103 complaints in Nov; 26 accused booked

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police's SHE Teams received 103 complaints in November. Of these, 52 women Walked into SHE Teams to file the complaint. Thirty-four complaints were lodged on WhatsApp and the remaining through other social media handles.

Twelve FIRs were registered by referring the matter to the concerned police stations. Twenty-six cases were booked under section 70 (c) of the Hyderabad City Police Act and 290 IPC. Ninety-eight persons were warned and counseled to change their behavior.

Blackmailing:

A 55-year-old woman underwent Covid treatment through telemedicine. A male nurse who used to call her for medical follow-up pretended to show extra care and learned personal things about her. She sensed that he is intruding too much into her life by calling her frequently. She started avoiding his calls. Later, the nurse started blackmailing her that he will leak personal information. Worried, the victim transferred money whenever he demanded. Unable to bear the torture, she walked into the SHE Teams' office and reported the matter. Mohd Gulam, 31, of Malakpet, was immediately traced and caught. He was produced before S. Laxman Rao, Special Metropolitan Magistrate with all relevant proofs. The accused was sent to jail for 8 days.

Stalking

A 26 yr old divorcee reached the SHE Teams office complaining that a man is pressurizing her for marriage. M. Arjun, 33, an employee at SPA offered an accountant job to the victim. After a few months, he started asking her to marry him. The victim rejected the proposal since the accused was already married and had 2 kids. Fed up with his harassment, she quit her job. SHE Teams caught the man red-handed and produced all relevant evidence before XII Metropolitan Magistrate who sent him to 5 days in jail.

POCSO Act

A case was filed against 21-year old G.Kumar under 354D, 363, 506 IPC, 11r/w 12 POCSO act. He had been chatting with the minor girl on Instagram. The girl's parents warned the man not to disturb their kid. Unfazed by the warning, he started asking the girl to meet him during school hours. Parents approached SHE Teams. Details were collected, respondent was caught by SHE Teams and handed over to Police Station Gandhi Nagar.
