Man who stole rare Bonsai plant from ex-DGP's Jubilee Hills residence arrested

The Jubilee Hills police arrested a 21-year-old man on 15 January in connection with the theft of a Bonsai plant. The cops also recovered the rare 15-year-old plant.

Man who stole rare Bonsai plant from ex-DGPs Jubilee Hills residence arrested

Hyderabad: The Jubilee Hills police arrested a 21-year-old man on 15 January in connection with the theft of a Bonsai plant. The cops also recovered the rare 15-year-old plant.

On Sunday, retired director-general of police V. Appa Rao's wife had filed a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police regarding the theft of the Bonsai plant. The complainant, V. Sridevi, told the police that a Saru plant (Casuarina) was stolen from their garden. The theft was reported after the gardener found the tree missing while he was watering the plant on Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Gollapudi Prasannanjaneyulu of Yousfugda. Another accused, Abhishek, is absconding.

According to the police, Gollapudi Prasannanjaneyulu works as a mason in the Jubilee Hills area. He had seen the Bonsai plants in front of the retired DGP's home. On 10 January, he stole the rare Bonsai plant that was kept in front of the main gate of the residence located at Road No. 18 in Jubilee Hills. He planned to sell it.

The police checked CCTV footages, identified the accused, and arrested him on Friday.
