The police took into custody one person who was reportedly in a relationship with the victim. According to the post-mortem report, the cause of death was due to hanging. However, the parents demanded another post-mortem alleging it was rape and murder.
The Dharmavaram deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Rama Kanth, said the girl was studying at Tirupati college and staying in a hostel. She came to Tirupati on 4 May after the accused, Sadhik, lured her there with the promise of marriage. The couple then went to a room.
Later, Sadik went out to bring food. He said that when he returned, the girl had hanged herself. He surrendered himself to the police.
Rape and murder?
On Friday morning, there was a clash between the girl's parents and the police. The parents demanded another post-mortem alleging that their daughter was gang raped and murdered. They protested on the road, demanding the accused be punished immediately. They alleged that Sadik and his friend had raped their daughter and killed her. The girl's father said that when they went to identify their daughter's body, they saw that her legs touched the bed as if she was praying. "She had bruises on her legs and hands. There is no relationship between Sadik and my daughter. We demand a death sentence for the accused Sadik," he said.
Meanwhile, the DSP said a second post-mortem was conducted. The bruises on the wrist and neck suggest suicide, he said. "She was not raped or murdered. We are sending samples to the forensic lab for another clear report," he added.
