Visakhapatnam: Unknown robbers broke into the house of a grocer and decamped with 60 tolas of gold and one kg of silver at Akkayyapalem in Visakhapatnam city.
The incident took place when the grocer Jalaumuru Bangarraju and his wife were at the shop, which is located 20 meters from their house. His lone daughter is married and settled in Bangaluru.
Fourth town police said the burglars broke into the house between 5 pm and 9 pm on Monday when Raju and his wife were busy in the shop. Police said one of the gang members stole the house key from the shop when the grocer's wife was busy.
When the woman went home at 9 pm, she saw the house open and ransacked. She immediately called her husband. He came rushing and found the gold and silver ornaments missing. He immediately informed the police.
Fingerprint experts rushed to the spot and police teams were formed to track down the burglars. This is the biggest burglary in the city in recent times, police said.
