Cambodian call centre forces 600 Indians to commit cyber fraud; Siricilla youth rescued

By Newsmeter Network Published on 27 April 2024 1:07 PM GMTSiricilla: Rajanna Siricilla police have caught a gang of cyber frauds who set up a call centre in Cambodia to cheat people in India through calls. Around 500 to 600 Indians were said to be employed at this Cambodian call centre.
The Siricilla police also rescued an Indian in Cambodia with the help of local police and the Indian Embassy there.
Those arrested have been identified as Kancharla Sai Prasad (27) a resident of Jagtial District; Sadakat from Lucknow, Abid Ansari from Pune and Shadhab from Dubai. Rajanna Siricilla district SP Akhil Mahajan IPS disclosed the details of this fraud in a media conference held at the district police office on Friday.
Case details
Four days ago, a woman named Atikam Lakshmi of Peddur village, Siricilla town, came to the district police office and said that her son Atikam Shiva Prasad gave Rs 1,40,000 to an agent named Kancharla Sai Prasad of Kodimyala village of Jagityala district and went to Cambodia.
She complained to the police that Shiva had contacted her over the phone to tell her that his passport had been taken away by āChinese company people and forced to do cyber crimes.ā There are around 500 to 600 victims from India like me. This company have set up a call centre in Cambodia in which callers are given Indian phone numbers and asked to commit job and lottery frauds, tasks-based fraud jobs and so on. āWe are being made to commit cyber frauds to India from Cambodia,ā Shiva had told his mom.
A case was immediately registered at the Siricilla town police station, and after talking to the Indian Embassy authorities in Cambodia, Shiva Prasad was rescued by the local police and they informed that Shiva Prasad would reach India within two days. They also said that all the other victims will also be rescued.
Agent in Jagtial confesses
A case was registered against Kancharla Sai Prasad of Jagtial district and he was detained and interrogated. He revealed that he took a commission of Rs 10,000 and the person was sent to a Sadakat from Lucknow who is currently staying in Maldives. In turn, Sadakat will take Rs 10,000 and send the person to Abid Ansari in Pune. Shadab from Bihar, currently staying in Dubai, will send the person to Cambodia finally.ā
Kancharla Sai Prasad and Abid Ansari have been detained and the other two will be arrested soon. A LOC (lookout circular) has been issued for them, the police said. The police also seized Apple iPhones from the two.
In Rajanna Siricilla district, the SP requested that young people who go to the Gulf countries for employment approach only licensed agencies.

Those who have been cheated by the agencies or agents in the district, if they make a complaint directly to the phone number 8712656411, the inspector officer of the special branch will take the complaint and it will be properly investigated. If the crime is proven, strict action will be taken against the concerned persons.
