A woman was attacked by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday spurring fears of the re-emergence of the 'Chaddi-Baniyan' gang in Visakhapatnam.
The incident occurred at Cheemalapalli in Pendurthy when gangsters attacked a woman with a screwdriver and decamped with her gold.
According to the preliminary investigation, at around 2 am on Wednesday, a woman in Pendurthy heard some noise outside. When she came out, she saw some masked people wearing Chaddi-Baniyan. When the woman tried to stop them, they attacked her with a screwdriver and ran away.
The woman was admitted to a private hospital, and her condition is said to be stable.
Clues team and dog squad who visited the spot suspect it to be a crime of the Chaddi-Baniyan gang. A case has been registered and an investigation is on.
According to the police, the Chaddi Baniyan gang movement has been spotted in the city and neighboring districts.
City police have made several changes in the night-beat system and intensified drives to install CCTV cameras, especially on the outskirts.

*In September 2022, the Chaddi gang failed to burgle valuables from an apartment in Tiruchanoor, Tirupati.
*In Dec 2021, Vijayawada police arrested three 'Chaddi gang' members from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, who allegedly looted houses. They recovered gold and silver ornaments and some cash from their possession.
