Chemudugunta horror: Man slits 14YO niece's throat, pours acid on her face; held

Nellore: A 35-year-old man slit the throat of a 14-year-old girl and poured acid on her face at Chemudugunta Colony in Venkatachalam village of Nellore district. The accused is believed to be the maternal uncle of the girl. Police have arrested the accused and booked him under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Nellore district superintendent of police (DSP) Vijaya Rao said the Class IX student was alone in the house as her parents had gone out on some work.

"When the accused entered the house, the victim ran away into the washroom and locked it from inside. The accused tried to sexually assault her. When she resisted, he threw toilet acid cleaner on her face. When she started screaming, he slit her throat with a knife. The accused was under the influence of alcohol, at the time of the incident," he said

Neighbors rushed to the spot and alerted her parents. The girl was rushed to a government hospital. She was later shifted to Apollo Hospital. Doctors said the victim' has suffered severe burn injuries on her face and her condition is critical. According to the DSP, the motive behind the attack is that the accused wanted money for his lavish lifestyle.

State agriculture minister Kakani Goverdhan Reddy spoke to the victim's family and enquired with the doctors about her condition. He assured that the accused will be punished severely.
