Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a Telangana Housing Board official died during a confrontation at Mehdipatnam on Saturday, while attempting to seal a property following a court order.
The incident occurred during a tense standoff with individuals allegedly hired to prevent the action.
Official collapses during duty
R. Jagadishwar Rao (52), Assistant Estate Officer with the Telangana Housing Board, was part of an official team sent to MP Garden Function Palace in Mehdipatnam to enforce a court order and take possession of the property.
The Board had secured legal rights over the function hall after a prolonged court case. The lessee, identified as Khaja Ishaquddin, reportedly owes the Housing Board arrears amounting to Rs 1.22 crore.
The lease for the property expired in 2014, and after years of litigation, the judgement favoured the Board.
Tension erupts at site
After informing the police, the officials reached the premises to seal the building. They managed to lock one of the three gates. However, as they moved to secure the second gate, a scuffle broke out.
Amid the commotion, Jagadishwar Rao collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Bouncers allegedly brought to resist takeover
Senior Housing Board officials alleged that Khaja Ishaquddin had deployed bouncers at the site to obstruct the sealing operation and prevent the officials from executing the court order.
Police register case, begin investigation
The Asifnagar police reached the spot soon after the incident and have launched a probe. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the confrontation and the circumstances that led to the official’s death.
