Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a Class V student of the BC girls’ residential school allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of her hostel building in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district on Monday.
The incident took place at the Jyotiba Phule Hostel in Toopranpet under Choutuppal mandal. The student, identified as Sandhya from Mahabubnagar, reportedly died on the spot after jumping from the fourth floor.
She had been enrolled in the hostel just a day before the incident and was reportedly unwilling to stay there after being forcibly enrolled by her parents.
Police shifted the body for postmortem examination and have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact reasons behind her extreme step.
35 students hospitalised after food contamination
In a separate incident, around 35 students from a tribal girls’ residential school in Mudigonda, Devarakonda mandal of Nalgonda district, fell ill allegedly after consuming contaminated food.
The students complained of vomiting and diarrhoea and were admitted to the government hospital at Devarakonda for treatment. Police investigations in both cases are ongoing. Further details are awaited.
KTR blames Congress government
BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR), reacting to the incident of the student’s death in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, termed it ‘deeply distressing’ that yet another student had taken her life in a Gurukul hostel. He alleged that the Congress government’s failure to provide basic facilities and safe food in hostels was pushing children to suicide.
KTR claimed that over 90 students from Gurukul hostels have died so far due to various reasons, but chief minister A Revanth Reddy remained indifferent. He warned that if such deaths continued, the Congress government would collapse due to the curse of grieving parents.
