On 21 April, Tadicherla Dhana Ramesh Kumar went out to withdraw money and purchase liquor and cigarettes. At midnight, he returned home and collapsed in front of his house at Ayodhya Nagar in Mehdipatnam. His wife Sri Laxmi noticed with the help of neighbors took him inside.
Ramesh told her that he had withdrawn Rs. 1,000 from an ICICI ATM near Vijaya Diagnostic Center at Mehdipatnam. But as he stepped out of the ATM, two unknown persons dragged him inside and assaulted him. They took his money, two gold rings, and his mobile phone and fled.
The next day, Ramesh was admitted to the hospital for treatment. However, on 27 April he insisted that he be discharged and went home. Three days later, he complained of health complications and was admitted to a nearby private hospital. Doctors there advised him to go to another hospital for better treatment.
