Crime rate in Rachakonda up by 9% in 2021; cyber crimes rise by 123%

A total of 1,360 cases related to cybercrime were reported by the Rachakonda police in 2021 as against 610 the previous year.

Crime rate in Rachakonda up by 9% in 2021; cyber crimes rise by 123%

The crime rate in Rachakonda commissionerate increased by nine per cent increase in 2021, informed Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat on Monday during the annual press meet. A total of 21,685 cases were booked in 2021 as against 19,857 cases in 2020.

Cyber crimes

The commissionerate witnessed a whopping 123% rise in cyber crimes. A total of 1,360 cases related to cybercrime were reported by the Rachakonda police in 2021 as against 610 the previous year.

Human Trafficking

The anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) of the Rachakonda police busted 106 rackets, arrested 354 persons, and invoked the Preventive Detention Act against 55 persons.

Convictions

In 2021, a total of 277 persons were convicted by courts for committing various crimes. "Rachakonda tops in ensuring convictions to the culprits in the state," said Mr. Bhagwat adding that the conviction rate increased from 51% in 2020 to 55% in 2021. Of the 277 convictions, eight people were convicted for life, two for 20 years, one for 14 years, eight for 10 years, four for seven years, seven for five years, one for four years, 12 for three years, and 184 for two years.

Drugs seized

A total of 5,779.791 kg of ganja, three litres of liquid ganja, 6.754 ltrs of hashish oil, 400 kg of opium poppy seeds, 6.1 grams Methamphetamine, seven grams ketamine, one grm MDMA, and 0.4 grams LSD blots were seized in 2021. Thirty-three accused were detained under the PD Act.As many as 248 establishments, including brothels, gaming houses, godowns, hookah parlours, and other places, were raided this year after obtaining orders from MROs and RDOs under section 133 of the CrPC.

Mentioning the efforts of the Rachakonda SHE Team, Mr. Bhagwat said the team had so far prevented 122 child marriages, including 31 this year.

Mr. Bhagwat said Rachakonda stood first in Telangana in terms of convictions – 55% in 2018, 65% in 2019, 66% in 2020, and 51% in 2021. Also, Rachakonda ranked first by disposing of 8,836 compoundable cases in four national Lok Adalats.
