Hyderabad: Devendra Kumar, a 25-year-old constable with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), was found dead earlier on Thursday at Chikoti Garden in Begumpet, Hyderabad. According to police inspector P. Srinivas Rao, Kumar used his Insas 5.56 automatic rifle to shoot himself in the head at around 5 a.m. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

While the exact reasons behind Kumarā€™s suicide are not yet clear, preliminary investigations suggest that a failed romantic relationship may have been the trigger. Kumarā€™s working shift was from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m., and the police checked his last calls, with the last one being to a lady. The police called and spoke to the lady who claimed to be only a friend. However, when questioned about the reason for Kumarā€™s suicide, she disconnected the call and switched off her mobile. The police suspect that a love affair may have been the cause of his suicide.

Based on the complaint given by Guard Commander Anil Pawar, the police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are investigating it.

Devendra Kumar was from Chhattisgarh and joined the CRPF in 2021. He was working as a security guard at the residence of CRPF IG Mahesh Ladda for the past 45 days. CRPF officers expressed shock and sadness at the news of Kumarā€™s death.
