Kothagudem: Panic broke out near the Kothagudem Railway Station in Bhadradri district after a crude bomb exploded in a garbage dump, killing a stray dog on Wednesday. Police later clarified that there was no terror or conspiracy angle involved in the incident.
Dog triggers blast after biting explosive
According to police, the explosion occurred when the stray dog bit into a crude bomb lying in a heap of garbage near the station premises. The impact of the blast was severe, causing the dog’s instant death.
Four more crude bombs seized
After receiving information, Town-III police rushed to the spot and conducted a detailed inspection of the area. During the search, four more crude bombs were found hidden in the garbage heap. All the explosives were safely seized to prevent further danger.
Bombs used for hunting, not a targeted attack: SP
District Superintendent of Police Rohith Raj clarified that the crude bombs were meant for hunting wild animals and were not linked to any planned attack.
He said that unknown individuals had dumped the bomb-filled bags in the garbage, following which stray dogs dragged them onto the railway track area. One of the dogs attempted to bite into the explosive, leading to the blast.
Blast sends passengers into panic
The explosion, which occurred near the railway station, triggered panic among passengers, with several people running for safety after hearing the loud sound.
Case registered, CCTV footage under scrutiny
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify those responsible for illegally dumping explosives. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined as part of the probe.
Police reiterated that while no sabotage angle has been found, strict action will be taken against those involved once they are identified.
