Cyber scammers impersonate IAS officer Srijana, text govt officers asking for money

Hyderabad: Cyber scammers created a fake WhatsApp profile using the photograph and name of IAS officer Dr G Srijana to seek money from officials.

Based on a complaint lodged by her personal secretary, the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

WhatsApp DP misused

Dr G Srijana, who is the director of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Telangana, and also holds full additional charge as director of Women and Child Development, became the target of cyber impersonation.

The fraud came to light on Tuesday evening when her personal secretary, M Manikantesh, lodged a complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police station.

Messages sent from Nepal number

According to the complaint, the impostor used an international number with Nepal’s ISD code to operate the fake WhatsApp account. The fraudster sent messages to at least three district welfare officers, seeking urgent financial assistance in the officer’s name.

Case registered

Following the complaint, Hyderabad Cyber Crime police registered a case and have begun efforts to identify and trace the person behind the fraudulent activity.
