Cyberabad: 21 sent to jail for drunk driving on Jan 7

Thirteen persons among them were sent to jail for a day while four got two days of jail. Two persons got three days of jail and two persons got five days of imprisonment.

Cyberabad: 21 sent to jail for drunk driving on Jan 7

Hyderabad: A total of 21 persons were sent to jail for drunk driving, under the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits. Thirteen persons among them were sent to jail for a day while four got two days of jail. Two persons got three days of jail and two persons got five days of imprisonment.

A total of 113 cases of drunk driving and driving without a license were disposed off by a court on 7 January. Around 32 cases, the highest number of cases were disposed of in Rajendra Nagar and RGI Airport traffic police stations. While 27 cases were disposed off from Gachibowli traffic police station and 12 in Madhapur traffic police stations. Out of total cases disposed off in court, 89 were for drunk driving cases and 24 were for driving without a license.

Around Rs 6,72,300 was imposed as fine by the court in the drunk driving cases and around Rs 74,400 was imposed as fine in the cases related to driving without a driving license.


Also, the Cyberabad police conducted drunk driving tests across Cyberabad and caught 931 persons for drunk driving between 31 December night and 1 January. A special drive was held in order to prevent road accidents and untoward incidents on New Year's Eve.

"All of the arrested will be produced before the court after filing charge sheets, the police said, adding that their driving licences will be seized and sent to the concerned RTAs for suspension as per section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988" Cops said.

According to the police, around 472 persons had an alcohol reading of more than 100 mg/100 ml of blood, 19 had more than 300 mg, and seven persons had more than 500 mg. Most of the cases were reported in Gachibowli, Narsingi, Madhapur, Raidurgam, Kukatpally, and KPHB areas.

The Cyberabad police also said that there were no major road accidents in the area. In view of the long weekend, the drunk driving campaign will continue in Cyberabad limits, they added.
