Cyberabad cops nab woman for murder of sex worker in Kukatpally

Hyderabad: In a breakthrough in the case of a sex worker being murdered in Kukatpally, police arrested a woman who planned the murder after taking the silver ornaments of the victim.

Case details

As per police records, the deceased was Dharmaram Priyanka (23) who was working as a daily wage worker and sex worker. She was living in KPHB with her husband. She came to the city from her native village Bodan, Nizamabad, about 2 months ago.

A month ago, Priyanka met the accused, Katari Manjula (35), a resident of Jagathgiri Gutta. Since Priyanka did not have a proper shelter, she gave her silver ornaments, anklets and mettelu, to Manjula for safekeeping. However, when she asked it back after a week, the accused began to evade her.

On September 30, both quarrelled on the issue and Priyanka threatened Manjula taking the help of her male friends. The accused took Priyanka to her house and returned the ornaments on October 2.

But the issue didn’t stop there since Majula wanted revenge for being insulted in public. She convinced Priyanka to consume alcohol in her house and at night took her to an open deserted area near Lodha Apartments.

Then, Majula allegedly sat on the chest of Priyanka and cut her throat. She made it look like Priyanka was sexually assaulted and killed. She soon fled the place on her scooty.

On Sunday, when she was questioned by the police, she admitted to killing Priyanka. The police found the silver ornaments, the blade used for the murder and the accused’s scooty. The accused has been sent for remand for further questioning.
