Hyderabad: Following instructions from the state government regarding zero tolerance towards drug abuse and peddlers, the Cyberabad police commissioner, M. Stephen Raveendra, formed a special NDPS Enforcement cell that will focus on strategies and steps to eradicate drugs.
The NDPS Enforcement Cell will be led by inspector Srinivas with a dedicated team that will work under the supervision of DCP crimes Rohini Priyadarshini.
The Narcotics Control Cell will mainly focus on preventive strategies, identification of hotspots where ganja and other drugs are sold or peddled, and take action accordingly. The cell will also take up programmes seeking support of all communities in rural as well as urban areas through community policing and stopping ganja cultivation.
The police have asked the public to inform them about any information related to drug suppliers through Dial 100 or through Cyberabad Narcotics Control Cell 79011 05423. The informer's identity will be kept confidential, they said.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad police stepped up its drive against ganja trade in Cyberabad commissionerate limits. Raids are being conducted daily and bulk buyers, local retailers and drug transporters are under police radar.
On 17 October in Cyberabad limits, a total of 10 cases were registered, 17 offenders arrested, 11 kg ganja seized, and 23 e-petty cases registered.
