Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Police Commissionerate recorded a sharp 19 per cent decline in cybercrime cases in 2025.

Recoveries for victims of online fraud also improved significantly due to faster response, tighter monitoring and expanded public awareness drives.

Official figures show that cybercrime cases dropped from 4,618 in 2024 to 3,734 in 2025.

Speaking to the media after unveiling the Annual Report-2025 of the Commissionerate, Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu said that while complaints remained substantial, police achieved better financial recovery during the year.

Investment and job scams remain top threats

Elaborating further, the CP said that Investment fraud continued to be the most reported cyber offence, accounting for 1,512 cases.

Part-time job scams followed closely with 1,215 cases.

Other categories included unauthorised transactions (216), APK-based frauds (96), job frauds (137), fake customer care scams (122), loan frauds (125), business frauds (31) and digital arrest scams (43).

Complaints related to credit card fraud, OLX, gift, matrimonial and other online frauds together stood at 237 cases, he added.

Large-scale cyber awareness programmes

To curb cyber offences, police intensified awareness campaigns across the commissionerate.

As many as 955 cybercrime awareness programmes were conducted in 2025, reaching over 1.02 lakh people. Officials said these programmes focused on identifying new fraud patterns and promoting safe online behaviour, the CP said.

“The reduction in cybercrime cases highlights the impact of sustained enforcement and awareness efforts, while cautioning that constant vigilance is needed as cyber fraudsters continue to adapt their methods,” Sudheer Babu added.

Seized drugs value at Rs 20.01 crore

As part of broader enforcement measures, as many as 256 cases were registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, leading to the arrest of 656 accused.

Seizures included 2,090.68 kg of ganja, along with ganja chocolate, hashish oil, MDMA, opium, heroin and other narcotics. The total value of seized contraband was estimated at Rs 20.01 crore.

Excise and gaming offences

Under the Excise Act, police booked as many as 227 cases and arrested as many as 689 persons, seizing 6,824.78 litres of illicit liquor.

A total of 1,472 cases were registered under the Gaming Act, with 73 arrests. Police seized as many as 1,204 mobile phones, 39 two-wheelers and 14 cars, with total seizures valued at Rs 69.24 lakh.

18,706 tonnes of sand seized in smuggling cases

“In human trafficking cases, 69 victims were rescued, and eight dens were dismantled during the year. We also registered 608 sand smuggling cases, arresting 789 accused. Seizures included 18,706 tonnes of sand, 38 lorries, 254 tractors and 33 mini vans, together worth Rs 2.99 crore,” Sudheer Babu said.
