DCA cracks down on misleading claims in Hanumakonda

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has seized two Ayurvedic medicines containing misleading claims about treating kidney stones and fever.

The medicines, Stone Nill DS syrup and Mahasudarshan Kadha were found during raids on February 12 in Bowrampet and Hanumakonda, respectively.

Misleading claims violate drug advertisement laws

Officials found that Stone Nill DS syrup was advertised as a treatment for ā€˜Kidney Stones - Renal Calculi and Urethral Calculi,ā€™ while Mahasudarshan Kadha was promoted as a remedy for fever. These claims violate the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits advertisements for drugs that claim to treat specific diseases and disorders.

Details of seized medicines

The seized products were traced back to their manufacturers and marketers:

Stone Nill DS syrup was manufactured by Ultra Green (Unit-I) in Panchkula, Haryana, and marketed by Marowin Healthcare, also based in Panchkula. It was detected in Bowrampet, Medchal-Malkajgiri District.

Mahasudarshan Kadha was manufactured by Om Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bengaluru and marketed by Shree Dhootapapeshwar Ltd., Mumbai. It was found in Hanumakonda.

Officials warn against violations

M Hemalatha, drugs inspector of Gandimaisamma, and J Kiran Kumar, drugs inspector of Hanumakonda, led the inspections. The DCA has initiated further investigations and stated that necessary legal action will be taken against the offenders.

ā€œAdvertising a medicine for the treatment of ā€˜Kidney Stones - Renal Calculi and Urethral Calculiā€™ and ā€˜Feverā€™ is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Persons making misleading advertisements regarding drug treatments are punishable under this law,ā€ said the statement from the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana.

Public urged to report illegal drug activities

The DCA has urged the public to report any suspected illegal drug manufacturing activities, including narcotic and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas. Complaints can be made through the toll-free number 1800-599-6969, available from 10:30 am to 5 pm on all working days.

The administration reiterated its commitment to ensuring compliance with drug advertisement laws and protecting public health from misleading claims.
