DCA raids 3 clinics run by quacks in Hyderabad, Jangaon; drugs seized

Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana raided clinics operated by unlicensed practitioners, commonly known as quacks, in three separate locations across the state. The raids, conducted on April 18 and 19, aimed to curb the illegal stocking and sale of medicines by individuals practising medicine without proper qualifications.

From the three locations, the officials recovered medicines with a total worth of Rs 2.56 lakhs.

The places of businesses of the quacks exposed in the recent DCA raids were in Vepur Village, Hanwada Mandal, Mahabubnagar District; Jangaon, Jangaon District; and Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad.

Discovery of unlawful practices

At the premises of quacks, substantial quantities of medicines were found stocked for sale without a drug license.

Officials discovered a range of violations during the raids. In Vepur, expired drugs and physician’s samples were among the 36 varieties of drugs seized. Moreover, higher-generation antibiotics and steroids were found at the clinics, raising concerns about the indiscriminate sale and misuse of these potent medications.

G Rajyalakshmi, assistant director, Warangal, elaborated on the department’s aim to stop such illegal activities through the raids.

She stated, “Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.”

Additionally, the DCA emphasised its commitment to cracking down on wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unqualified persons without a valid drug license.

Appeal to public

The director general of the Drugs Control Administration, VB Kamalasan Reddy, urged the public to report any complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines.

He stated, “The public may report any complaints through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana at toll-free number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 am to 5 pm on all working days.”
