Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) recently carried out targeted raids in Kodad, Suryapet district, exposing and dismantling illicit drug operations across four locations. The raids on March 11 led to the seizure of drug stocks valued at Rs 33.68 lakhs.

According to the DCA officials of Nalgonda Zone, the operations were aimed at curbing the illegal stocking and sale of drugs in the region. During the raids, it was revealed that Dr R Suresh Kumar was operating a medical shop without a drug license at Suresh Ortho and Skin Care Hospital in Kodad. An illegal stock of medicines worth Rs 12.30 lakhs were seized from him.

Additional unlicensed godowns were discovered during the operation.

Nutakki Vital’s godown in Azadnagar, Kodad, yielded stocks valued at Rs 12.25 lakhs. At Sri Chennakesava Medical Corporation, owned by D Kishor Babu, the officials found illegal stocks worth Rs 3.04 lakhs. Furthermore, a separate unlicensed godown belonging to Vennam Venkata Reddy contained expired drugs worth Rs 1.31 lakhs was also found.

Addressing the issue at a broader level, the DCA emphasised the accountability of wholesalers and dealers, warning that supplying medicines to unlicensed entities could result in severe consequences under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The administration urged wholesalers and dealers to verify the validity of drug licenses before supplying medicines to entities.

DCA officials highlighted the gravity of the situation, seizing samples for analysis and ensuring that further investigations would be conducted. Stringent actions will be taken by the law against all offenders involved in the illegal stocking and sale of drugs.

The director general, VB Kamalasan Reddy, IPS, affirmed the commitment to intensifying surprise checks on entities involved in illegal drug activities and taking stringent legal actions against violators.
