DCA raids illegal medical shop in Alwal; 20 types of drugs worth Rs 30,000 seized
Hyderabad: In a significant crackdown on illegal pharmaceutical operations, the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana raided a medical shop in Alwal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, which was found operating without a valid drug license.
Medicines worth approximately Rs 30,000 were seized during the raid.
Acting on reliable information, DCA officials conducted the raid on Monday at Bank Colony, West Venkatapuram, Alwal. The shop was being run illegally by one YV Subba Rao, who was stocking and selling medicines without the mandatory drug license.
20 types of medicines seized
During the inspection, officers discovered 20 types of medicines, including antifungal drugs, analgesics, and medications for erectile dysfunction, being stored for sale without authorisation. The entire stock was confiscated on the spot.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Dr K Prabhakar, assistant director (Quthbullapur), along with drugs inspectors K Murali Krishna (Malkajgiri) and E Thirupathi (Quthbullapur). Samples of the seized drugs have been sent for analysis, and a detailed investigation is underway. Legal action will be initiated against all individuals involved, the DCA officials said.
Authorities also issued a stern warning to wholesalers and drug dealers, emphasising that supplying medicines to unlicensed entities is a punishable offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Strict action will be taken against violators, the DCA stated, urging suppliers to ensure that buyers hold valid licenses before delivering medicines.
Public advisory on buying medicines from unlicensed shops
The DCA further advised the public to avoid purchasing medicines from unlicensed shops or unverified online sources, warning that such products could be counterfeit and dangerous to health. Licensed medical shops are required to display their drug licenses prominently for public visibility.
Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious or illegal drug-related activity, including manufacturing and distribution of unlicensed or narcotic drugs, by calling the Drugs Control Administrationās toll-free helpline at 1800-599-6969, available from 10:30 am to 5 pm on working days.
