Hyderabad: Illegal drug unit shut down; Rs 3.5 lakh worth of stock seized in Malakpet
Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has conducted a series of coordinated raids across Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
The raids unearthed illegal drug manufacturing, unauthorised marketing, and misleading advertisements of pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic products. The operations led to the seizure of unlicensed stocks valued at over Rs 3.5 lakh.
Illegal veterinary drug manufacturing uncovered
In one of the major raids, officials from the DCA, along with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), Hyderabad Zone, raided the premises of Siflon Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Unit-I, located at ALEAP Industrial Estate, Gajularamaram.

The team discovered unauthorised manufacturing of veterinary drugs, including Albendazole Tablets 250mg (Bolus) and Albendazole Granules, which were being produced without a valid drug manufacturing license.
A total of 537 kg of Albendazole Tablets and 986 kg of granulesāworth approximately Rs 3 lakhāwere seized. The products, manufactured in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, pose a potential threat to animal health due to non-compliance with quality standards. Manufacturing drugs without a license is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years.
Unlicensed marketing by Biovus Pharma in Moosarambagh
In a separate action, the DCAās Secunderabad Zone raided Sri Venkateswara Medi Promoters in Moosarambagh, Malakpet, where officials found several products being marketed under the brand name Biovus Pharma without the necessary drug license or manufacturer-marketer agreement, as mandated by the Drugs Rules, 1945.
The marketer failed to produce documentation showing an agreement with the drug manufacturer, and the declared address on the packaging was found to be unlicensed for drug sales. Stocks worth Rs 52,737 were seized during the operation. Under current regulations, a marketer is legally responsible for the quality of the product and must be licensed at the address printed on the product label.
Misleading ayurvedic claims flagged in Kukatpally
In a third operation, DCA officials seized stocks of Hemadri Ortho Care Pain Oil, an Ayurvedic product found with misleading claims that it treats Rheumatoid Arthritisāa disease for which advertising cures is strictly prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The product, manufactured by Hemadri Ayurveda Pharmacy, was found at a medical store in Kukatpally. Advertising such products for restricted conditions is a punishable offence under the Act, with penalties including imprisonment of up to six months and/or fines.
Public urged to report violations
The DCA, Telangana, has appealed to the public to report any suspicious or illegal drug-related activitiesāwhether in residential, commercial, or industrial areasāthrough its Toll-Free Number: 1800-599-6969, available from 10:30 am to 5 pm on working days. The department has stated that further investigations are ongoing in all three cases, and appropriate legal action will be initiated against all offenders involved.
