DCA sleuths stop illegal manufacture of Glycoril cough syrup in Kukatpally

Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration (DCA) caught a manufacturing unit in Kukatpally illegally making Glycoril cough syrup and seized stocks worth Rs 65,000 during the raid.

The DCA officials found that Akhil Life Sciences was manufacturing the cough syrup (Terbutaline Sulphate, Ambroxol HCl, Guaiphenesin and Menthol Syrup) without the requisite drug license for the product.

Acting on gathered intelligence, officials from the DCA raided the drug manufacturing unit on Monday. During the raid, the officers found the unlicensed manufacturing of Glycoril cough syrup.

According to the officials, Glycoril cough syrup can only be manufactured under a drug manufacturing license issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, in accordance with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The manufacturing process should adhere to the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) prescribed under Schedule M of the Drugs Rules and meet the quality standards mandated by the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).

During the raid, the DCA officials seized 635 bottles of 100 ml each of Glycoril cough syrup, along with printed labels of the product. The proprietor of Akhil Life Sciences was identified as Bhaskar Reddy.

Further investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law against all the offenders involved, DCA said.

Drugs manufactured without a drug license may fail to meet the quality standards prescribed in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) and the Drugs Rules, 1945. Such products can have serious implications for patientsā€™ health.

Manufacturing and selling drugs without a valid drug manufacturing license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment of up to five years.

The public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana toll-free Number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 am to 5 pm on all working days.
