Disha encounter case: SC grants six months extension to judicial commission
Supreme Court has granted a second six months extension to the panel probing the encounter of Disha's rapists.

According to Live Law, a bench comprising of Chief Justice of India, Justice A.S. Bopanna and Justice V. Ramasubramanian on January 29 granted six months extension to the probe panel.
Four men accused of gang rape and murder of a veterinarian was killed in an alleged encounter on December 6, 2019.
This is for the second time when the Apex Court has granted an extension to the Commission for submitting its final report.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had constituted a Commission for inquiring into the circumstances in which the four accused persons, Mohammed Arif, Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, Jolu Shiva, and Jollu Naveen, were killed in Hyderabad on December 6, 2019.
Headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice V.S. Sirpurkar, the judicial commission includes R.P. Sondurbaldota, former Judge of the Bombay HC and. D.R. Karthikeyan, and former Director of the CBI.
Cyberabad police in the wee hours of December 19, 2019, shot dead Veterinarian doctor Disha's rapists at the crime scene where her charred body was found. The four accused rapists were taken to the crime scene near Outer Ring Road in Hyderabad.
In the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, they were taken to ORR toll plaza for crime scene reconstruction. They were shot dead at the spot when they tried to escape. The Cyberabad police had arrested the four accused on November 29 in connection with their involvement in the rape and murder case. The accused were identified as Mohammad Areef, Jollu Shiva, Jollu Naveen, and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu.
Later, the Telangana government has formed a Special Investigation Team to probe into the death of the four suspected rapist-killers of veterinarian Disha during an encounter with the police at Shadnagar on December 6.
The four men had allegedly raped and killed Disha before burning her body under a culvert on NH-44 near the encounter spot. According to a government order (GO) released on December 9, 2019, the SIT will be headed by Rachakonda commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat. It will have seven more police officers from different parts of the state as its members. The SIT will start its work immediately.
Other than the encounter-killing of Disha's rapist-murderers, the team will also look into similar cases registered across Telangana, as per the directive of the Supreme Court. "All government agencies including police in Telangana shall extend all possible assistance to the SIT keeping in view of the sensitivity of the case. After completion of the investigation, the SIT will file its report in the concerned court of law, having jurisdiction," reads the GO.
