Doctor ends life in Karimnagar, after friends fail to return Rs 1.78 Cr

Karimnagar: A 43-year-old doctor pursuing postgraduation in anesthesia allegedly died by suicide in Karimnagar.

Reports said he was facing severe financial stress after friends did not return Rs 1.78 crore that they had borrowed from him at the time of need. The incident occurred at his residence in Mankammathota here.

Doctor found unresponsive at home

According to Circle Inspector Srujana Reddy of Karimnagar II Town Police Station, the deceased was identified as Dr. M.P.T. Srinivas (43). He was survived by his wife and a son.

Srinivas was found unconscious by his wife, Dr. Viplava Sri, a government medical officer. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Police suspect that he ended his life by administering a combination of injections.

Debt burden and betrayal by friends

Investigations revealed that two of Dr. Srinivas’s close friends had borrowed Rs 1.78 crore from him but did not return the money despite repeated requests.

Adding to his distress, three others had allegedly taken bank loans worth Rs 1.35 crore in his name, leaving him with severe financial liabilities.

Police said the doctor had been expressing anguish to his wife over the past few days, repeatedly mentioning that his friends had deceived him and that he was unable to cope with the mounting pressure.

A promising career cut short

Dr. Srinivas was pursuing his postgraduate second year in Anesthesia at a reputed medical and science institute located on the city outskirts. He was known to be a dedicated student and practitioner.

Family members said that Srinivas had been suffering from mental stress and ill health for the past week and appeared increasingly withdrawn.

Police inquiry underway

The Karimnagar II Town Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officials are verifying financial transactions and statements from the doctor’s friends to establish the exact circumstances that led to the tragedy.
