The incident occurred due to grudges between the accused and the victim. S Karunakar Reddy, the victim, and Madhusudan Reddy are close relatives, and the police found that Madhusudan Reddy was the main conspirator behind the murder, even though he was not directly involved.
Karunakar Reddy had opened a document writer’s office with Madhusudan Reddy’s support. However, he had earlier worked for a Telugu daily and had exposed Madhusudan Reddy’s illegal activities related to land settlements. This caused a rift between the two. Madhusudan Reddy was nursing a grudge and wanted to replace Karunakar Reddy at the document writer’s office.
Late on Sunday, Madhusudan Reddy’s brothers Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Vikram Reddy, their relative Arun Kumar Reddy, and their associate Arif intercepted Karunakar Reddy and his uncle M. Sreedhar Reddy’s car. They assaulted Karunakar Reddy, dragged him out, and forced him into their car. They threatened Sreedhar Reddy and sped away with Karunakar Reddy. Sreedhar Reddy immediately alerted the Kothur police and a kidnap case was registered.
In the early hours of Monday, the Kothur police received information from a private hospital at Gachibowli about an “accident victim” from Kothur who was brought dead to the hospital. The police and Karunakar Reddy’s family rushed to the hospital and identified him. The hospital staff told the police that unidentified persons admitted Karunakar Reddy, claiming that he was injured in an accident at Kothur.
After leaving Karunakar Reddy with severe injuries, the accused admitted him to a private hospital in Gachibowli, where he was declared dead. Special teams have been deputed to nab the accused, according to Shamshabad ACP V. Bhaskar.
The police have registered a murder case against Madhusudan Reddy and six others.
