Dr Jitender bids farewell as Telangana DGP, flags cybercrime, drug menace as key challenges
Hyderabad: Outgoing Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Jitender on Tuesday said the challenges of cybercrime, narcotics and inter-state criminal networks will remain key focus areas for the police and called for a balanced use of technology and human capability to deal with them effectively.
He was addressing the farewell parade organised in his honour at the RBVRR Telangana Police Academy, where Intelligence DGP Battula Shivadhar Reddy, who will take over as the next state police chief, and other top officials were present.
Telangana tops national policing rankings
During his address, Jitender noted that Telangana Police was ranked No. 1 in the recently released India Justice Report. He also recalled that the Union Home Secretary had praised Telangana’s initiatives in combating narcotics and cybercrime.
He highlighted that the State police were not only safeguarding Telangana but were also assisting other states, citing the Special Investigation Team’s operation in the illegal betting apps case.

Technology is a game-changer, but not a substitute
The outgoing DGP credited technology with transforming policing in Telangana, pointing out that sensational crimes were being solved within 48-72 hours. With over 10 lakh CCTV cameras installed, detection and prevention have become faster.
At the same time, he warned against excessive dependence on technology.
“Technology has its limitations. Human capability and technology must complement each other to create synergy in policing,” he said.
Law and order situation under control
Jitender commended the force for maintaining communal harmony and peace.
“On the Naxal and terror fronts, Telangana has been peaceful with no major incidents. All festivals and major events were conducted without trouble, which reflects the professionalism of our police,” he said.
Strengthening the police force
The outgoing DGP also acknowledged the State government’s support in augmenting the police force. More than 14,000 personnel were recruited recently, and 113 direct DSPs were appointed last week, which he said would further strengthen policing.
A personal reflection
Expressing faith in his successor, Jitender said, “Shivadhar Reddy brings rich experience in urban policing and counter-terror operations. Telangana Police will greatly benefit from his leadership.”
Looking back at his 33-year career, Jitender recalled his initial apprehension as a Punjab native allotted to the Andhra Pradesh cadre during training at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
“I wondered how I would adjust, but I always received immense support from my seniors. Hyderabad became home, and my family and I have decided to settle here,” he said, thanking his parents and family for their support.
