Hyderabad: A local driver and a former Dubai-based salesman were arrested by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) in a joint operation with Tolichowki Police, exposing their thriving MDMA peddling network in the city.

Joint operation and seizure

On October 19, acting on credible intelligence, HNEW and Tolichowki Police apprehended the duo. Seized items include 11 grams of MDMA, two mobile phones and a two-wheeler, the police said on Wednesday.

All items were valued at Rs 1.77 lakh and a case has been registered under CrNo 193/2025 U/Sec. 8(c) r/w 22(c), 27, 29 of NDPS Act-1985 at Tolichowki Police Station.

From addiction to drug peddling

The first accused is Mohd. Imran (31), a driver from Suncity, Bandlaguda Jagir, has battled drug addiction for years, particularly ganja and hash oil.

Despite undergoing rehabilitation and previous arrests in 2024, he resumed illegal activities, lured by the prospect of easy money and a lavish lifestyle.

Imran developed contacts in Bengaluru to source MDMA and LSD at cheaper rates. He personally transported the drugs to Hyderabad and sold them to local consumers at higher prices.

His operations expanded over time, turning him into a key figure in the city’s drug trade.

A sub-peddler’s role

The other accused, Shaik Baseer Ahmed (32), a former salesman who had worked in Dubai, is addicted to MDMA, cigarettes and alcohol. With no independent income and ambitions for a luxurious lifestyle, he joined Imran as a sub-peddler.

Ahmed’s role involved procuring MDMA from Imran, delivering it to customers across Hyderabad, collecting payments and sharing profits with the main peddler. Together, they created an effective supply chain catering to the city’s drug consumers.

Modus Operandi

Imran procured MDMA from an interstate supplier in Bengaluru, transporting it by road to Hyderabad. Ahmed then delivered the drugs locally and collected payments as per Imran’s instructions. Their network targeted city consumers, generating easy profits and sustaining their extravagant lifestyle.

Police appeal to citizens

HNEW warned that substance abuse among youth is increasing, often transforming users into peddlers with severe consequences for families and society. Citizens are urged to report drug-related activity to HNEW at 8712661601.

Deputy Commissioner of Police YVS Sudheendra emphasised the need for collective action to maintain a drug-free Hyderabad.
