Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) along with Film Nagar police arrested a Nigerian drug peddler and seized 16 grams of cocaine from him. The total worth of goods seized from him was Rs 6.70 lakhs.

In seperate drug bust, Jubilee Hills police apprehended a drug peddler and seized 43 LSD blots from him. Total worth of contraband seized from him was Rs 11,50,000 (more than Rs 11 lakhs).

Details of accused from Nigeria

Addressing a press conference at CCS Basheer Bagh office here, DCP (HNEW) S Rashmi Perumal said that the accused was identified as Okaro Cosmos Ramsey aka Andy (38), living in Shaikpet.

In 2014, Andy came to New Delhi on a business visa and later settled in Hyderabad for livelihood. Initially, he visited Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu for cloth exports to his country.

In 2016, he was arrested by Golconda police along with Nigerian Abraham Jacob Ukoha with cocaine. After getting released on bail, he procured cocaine from another Nigerian named Obasi, a resident of Bengaluru, and started drug peddling in Hyderabad. In 2018, he was arrested again by Golconda excise police for cocaine peddling.

Andy was procuring cocaine from his friend Obasi (a Nigerian national), who used to come to Hyderabad to supply drugs for cash.

Subsequently, the accused resold the drugs to pre-identified consumers communicating via virtual numbers and by using encrypted apps such as Telegram to ensure anonymity and avoid police surveillance. On credible information that the accused was peddling drugs in the city, the HNEW team apprehended the accused and seized cocaine from him. A four-wheeler, two mobile phones and Rs 20,000 were also seized.

Two cases were filed against the accused at the Golconda Excise Police Station under sections 8(c), r/w 21(b), 27(a) of the NDPS Act.

Drug bust in Jubilee Hills

The Jubilee Hills police apprehended a drug peddler named V Lakshmipathi alias Lucky alias LP and seized 43 LSD blots from him. Lucky is a habitual offender who has been booked in cases under the NDPS Act in Nalgonda II Town PS, Hayathnagar PS, Golconda PS and others.

Case details

Lucky was a BTech student who discontinued his studies due to his addiction to ganja. Then he started procuring ganja from Araku and sold it to needy consumers.

Later, he started attending social parties in Goa and Kasaul and started selling drugs for profit. He used private travels to ferry drugs between cities.

In this case, the accused procured LSD blots from Mumbai, through courier parcels (logistics) and paid the supplier by depositing money into different accounts.

Thereafter, he re-sold the drugs to needy consumers confidentially with cash on delivery mode. The entire communication between the supplier and the consumer was done through Snapchat to ensure anonymity and avoid police surveillance.

In recent times, drug abuse and consequent addiction are rising in society leading to disastrous consequences for the family as a unit and the society in general.
