Drug trafficking busted: Rs 6.2 crore worth ganja from Jaipur seized at Abdullahpurmet

Hyderabad: As much as 1.2 tonnes of marijuana worth Rs 6.2 crore was seized on Tuesday.

The seizure of a part of an operation against interstate drug trafficking, Rachakonda Police, along with the Special Operations Team (SOT), Maheshwaram Zone and Abdullahpurmet Police. The driver involved in the transport of the contraband from Jaipur was arrested.

Driver arrested, syndicate’s link revealed

The accused, Vikram Vishnoi alias Vikas, a resident of Ania Village, Osian Tehsil, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, was employed as a driver when he became part of an interstate marijuana trafficking network.

Police identified his associates as Devilal alias Katu (Mediator), Aayub Khan (Receiver) and Ramlal (DCM vehicle owner), all residents of Osian Tehsil, Rajasthan.

These individuals reportedly offered Vikram Rs 5 lakh per consignment for transporting marijuana from Odisha to Rajasthan.

Iron, cement bags used to transport drugs from Jaipur to Nanded

Investigations revealed that Vikram’s journey began with transporting an iron load from Jaipur to Nanded, Maharashtra. He then moved to Hyderabad and Khammam, Telangana, where he procured cement bags to conceal the drugs.

Following instructions from the syndicate, Vikram travelled to Malkangiri, Odisha, collected approximately 1,210 kilograms of marijuana, and hid it beneath the cement, covering the load with a tarpaulin to evade detection.

Timely police action leads to seizure

On Tuesday, acting on a tip-off, the SOT Maheshwaram Zone intercepted Vikram’s TATA Ultra truck at National Highway 65, Kothaguda X Road, Abdullahpurmet, leading to the seizure of the consignment and his arrest.

Syndicate’s interstate network under scrutiny

The marijuana, sourced from the remote forests of Malkangiri, Odisha, was intended for distribution across Rajasthan. Police are continuing investigations to identify additional members of the network and trace the full supply chain.

Rachakonda police vow to combat drug menace

Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu emphasised that disrupting the drug supply chain, identifying peddlers and consumers, and conducting awareness campaigns remain top priorities. He urged public cooperation to curb the growing menace of drug trafficking in the region.
