Hyderabad: The sleuths of SOT, LB Nagar Zone team along with LB Nagar police arrested a three-member gang who were trying to cheat the public by providing Manoranjan bank notes as fake currency notes. One of the accused has been identified as Mohammad Bahauddin alias Jaweed, a former senior assistant at the Utnoor Range Office, Adilabad, Forest Department who was suspended in 2014. The other two are Jampani Anderson, a taxi driver with a record of offences and Maggidi Kishan, also a taxi driver.

The police seized a bundle of Rs 500 notes and duplicate notes with a face value of Rs 60 lakhs from them, along with a car and their mobile phones.

Case details

Mohammad Bahauddin after his suspension began working as a real estate broker. Later, he met a person named Salman who taught him how to cheat people and also introduced him to Andreson. Andreson and Maggidi Kishan were working as taxi drivers at the RGIA Airport Taxi Stand.

All three would identify gullible people, lure them in by saying that they will provide fake currency notes at a 1:3 ratio and provide Manoranjan bank notes by taking original notes. One among the gang members would act as the police who would suddenly appear at the exchange and the rest would disappear.

On December 21, the three came to Hyderabad and purchased Manoranjan banknotes at a shop at Begum Bazar and found a person to sell fake currency for original currency with a ratio of 1:3. While they were travelling to meet the person, the police apprehended them in a vehicle checking Near Sitara Grand Hotel in LB Nagar and found children bank notes with the face value of Rs 60 lakhs.

Bahauddin had previously committed similar offences at Pandharkawda, Yavatmal of Maharashtra State and Nirmal, Armoor, Nizamabad and twice in the LB Nagar area of Rachakonda Police Commissionerate limits.

Police are trying to trace the criminal history of the accused as well as identify the victims. A case has been registered and the investigation is on.
