Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough, the Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested Saroj Shiswant Thorat, director of Eagle Expert Immigration Consultancy, for her alleged involvement in a multi-state overseas job fraud.

The scam, which targeted nearly 100 job seekers across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, involved collecting lakhs of rupees under the false promise of overseas employment.

Scam spanned multiple States

The arrest follows a complaint from Ch Kamalakar of Karimnagar, who, along with his friend K Sunil, was defrauded of Rs 8 lakh by a consultancy named Abroad Study Plan Overseas Educational Consultancy, operating from KPHB, Hyderabad. The victims were promised confirmed jobs in Malta but were handed fake documents, resulting in job denial upon arrival and eventual return to India.

Abroad Study Plan Overseas charged Rs 5 lakh for fake jobs

CID investigations revealed that the accused were operating a broader fraudulent network through offices in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Delhi. Victims were asked to pay Rs 5 lakh each for job placements abroad, mostly in Malta. Upon reaching their destinations, the promised jobs were non-existent.

Six arrests so far; more accused on the run

So far, six people have been arrested in the case, including Ghanta Anil Kumar, Ghanta Sunil Kumar, Kottu Sai Ravi Teja, Kottu Sai Manoj, Shubham and Vamshi.

On June 17, Saroj Shiswant Thorat was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Thorat and her husband, Vuyyuru Bharath Kumar, also a director in the consultancy, are accused of conspiring with the directors of Abroad Study Plan to orchestrate the scam.

Three FIRs have been registered at Karimnagar, Nirmal and Cyberabad police stations. All cases are now being investigated by the CID’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW).

Verify authenticity of consultancy with Protector General of Emigrants

The CID has issued a public advisory urging job seekers to avoid unregistered overseas consultancies and to verify whether an agency is registered with the Protector General of Emigrants (PGE) before paying for employment services abroad.
