Hyderabad: Bachupally Police of Cyberabad Commissionerate arrested a man in possession of counterfeit notes worth Rs 15 lakh. The arrest took place near Nizampet Arch on Saturday following a tip-off which led to the major crackdown on the circulation of fake currency.
The accused, Prathipati Prem Chandu, hailing from West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, was caught while attempting to deliver fake Rs 500 denomination notes.
Police said he had been lured into the illegal activity by one Rakesh, a resident of Pune, who promised easy earnings through the distribution of counterfeit currency.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Bachupally police team swiftly moved into action around 3:30 pm on June 21 and apprehended Prem Chandu at Nizampet Village. Upon search, officers recovered counterfeit notes totalling Rs 15,00,000 and a Redmi mobile phone from his possession.
The accused was produced before the magistrate and was remanded to judicial custody. Police are continuing their efforts to trace others involved in the racket, including the alleged mastermind Rakesh.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to fake currency to the nearest police station.
