Fake RAW official arrested for cheating woman, decamping with jewelry

Hyderabad: Police have arrested a fake Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer for falsely promising to marry a woman and decamping with her jewelry at Malkajgiri in Hyderabad.

Identified as M Anandvardhan, he posed as an undercover agent and entered into a relationship with a woman. He promised to marry her and decamped with gold jewelry weighing 50 tolas

Hailing from Malkajgiri, he had approached the victim after knowing that she was a divorcee and single. He claimed that he was an undercover agent and had been working on an assignment in the city.

Police found that two years back, Anandvardhan also joined the organization where the victim was working. During an interaction at the office, he became close to her. He informed the woman that he too had divorced his wife. To convince her, he produced a fake divorce document.

Later he also obtained a fake marriage certificate and convinced the victim that it was original and they are legal husband and wife.

Under this guise, he mortgaged her gold jewelry to finance his lavish lifestyle. When the victim asked for her jewelry, he created two fake email ids to inform her that he has been killed in an operation in a northern state.

When the victim demanded the body, he contacted her again to settle the matter. Police found that he gave her a fake cheque and produced a fake FIR copy about the theft of the jewelry.

When his cover was blown, the woman approached the police. Later a case was registered and he was arrested.
