Fake Unani doctor cheats childless couple, escapes with gold in Yadadri-Bhongir

Hyderabad: In a shocking case of cheating, a man posing as a Unani doctor allegedly duped a childless couple and escaped with gold ornaments from their residence at Gandhinagar in Bhoodan Pochampally, Yadadri-Bhongir district, on Monday.

Posed as a Kerala-based healer

According to police, the accused approached a couple identified as Praneeth and his wife, who had been hoping for a child. Introducing himself as a Unani doctor from Kerala, he gained their trust by claiming he could help them conceive through traditional treatment.

False promise of miracle cure

The man handed over an oil and assured the couple that applying it would yield results within 40 days. As part of the so-called ritual, he instructed the woman to remove her gold ornaments, take a bath, and then apply the oil to her body.

Accused escapes with ornaments

While the woman went to take a bath, the impostor allegedly picked up the gold jewellery and fled the house. On returning, the victim found the ornaments missing and immediately alerted her family.

Police register case, probe on

Following a complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the accused. Efforts are underway to identify the suspect and recover the stolen jewellery, officials said.
