9 arrested in Hyderabad for selling fake vehicle insurance policies
Hyderabad: The Jeedimetla police have arrested nine persons for allegedly running a fake vehicle insurance racket by forging policies of reputed insurance companies and cheating unsuspecting motorists.
According to Jeedimetla Inspector Gaddam Malles, the arrests were made following a complaint lodged by Mrunal Kumar, a representative of Reliance General Insurance Company.
The complainant informed police that some individuals were preparing and selling fake vehicle insurance documents in the name of well-known insurance firms in the NLB Nagar and surrounding areas under the Jeedimetla police station limits.
A case was registered based on the complaint, and a special team conducted raids in NLB Nagar on February 27, leading to the arrest of the accused.
Accused identified
The arrested persons have been identified as Raghula Ravi, Shiva Kumar, S Kurthi Manikya Rao, Kotha Babu Rao, Raghula Mahesh, Thadakala Giridhar Goud, Mora Narasimha, Kundungari Nagaraju and Jerpula Kishan.
Police said large quantities of fake vehicle insurance policies, counterfeit stamps, and equipment used for preparing the forged documents were seized from their possession.
Creating fake urgency for renewals
During the investigation, it was revealed that the gang systematically targeted vehicle owners who required urgent insurance renewals. By offering policies at attractive rates and promising immediate documentation, they allegedly duped several customers.
Police warned that such fake policies not only result in financial loss but could also leave vehicle owners vulnerable to legal and monetary complications in the event of accidents or claims.
Public advisory
The police advised motorists to verify vehicle insurance policies only through official company websites or authorised agents before making payments.
Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend others involved in the racket.
