Hyderabad: In a peculiar case of cybercrime, scammers managed to deceive a father and daughter from LB Nagar separately through the same fraudulent investment mobile application, LF Work, siphoning off over Rs 2 lakh in total.
The Rachakonda Cybercrime Police have registered two cases and initiated a probe to trace the culprits.
Father falls for fake returns, loses Rs 1.35 lakh
According to the complaint lodged by M Rama Krishna (49), an RTC employee residing at Mazid Lane, LB Nagar, the scam began on August 26, when a friend forwarded him a link to LF Work, presented as an online investment platform promising steady profits.
Attracted by the small but quick returns initially shown in the app, Rama Krishna invested multiple times, eventually transferring Rs 1,35,210. When he tried to withdraw his earnings, the platform stopped responding, and all contact was lost. Realising he had been duped, he approached the Rachakonda Cybercrime Police.
A case was registered under Crime No. 1069/2025, Sections 318(4), 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 66(C) and 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
Daughter also cheated, loses Rs 86,220
Shockingly, a similar complaint was filed a day later by M Mithali (23), daughter of the same complainant, residing at the same address. She stated that a family friend introduced her to the LF Work app on September 5, 2025, describing it as a lucrative investment platform.
Encouraged by initial returns displayed in the app, Mithali invested multiple times, totalling Rs 86,220. Like her father, she was unable to withdraw the amount later and realised she had fallen victim to an online scam.
