Srikakulam: A thief's plan to decamp with valuables from a temple went horribly wrong when he got stuck in a small window at Jadupudi village in the Srikakulam district.

Identified as R Papa Rao, the 30-year-old-tippler entered Jami Yelamma temple through the small window to steal silver ornaments and other valuables.

When Papa Rao tried to escape, he got stuck in the window.

Locals rushed to the spot and found him in an awkward position. He was later taken under custody.

Locals were also surprised about how he entered the temple through the small window.

Police said Papa Rao has been committing petty crimes for liquor. He had stolen an LPG cylinder from his mother's house to meet his vices. "We have registered a case against Papa Rao and recovered the stolen silver ornaments from him," police said.
