Hyderabad: At least four persons were killed and several were seriously injured after a lorry ran over a group of vegetable vendors at Aluru Stage on Hyderabad-Bijapur National Highway in Chevella mandal, Ranga Reddy district on Monday.

The incident occurred when the lorry, en route to Vikarabad district from Hyderabad, lost control, the police said. About 50 vendors were selling vegetables by the side of the road when the tragedy occurred. The number of fatalities may rise.

Among the four deceased, three of them were identified as Ramulu and Prem from Aluru and Sujatha from Khanapur. One more person who succumbed is yet to be identified. Witnesses described how a rapidly approaching lorry created fear among the sellers who fled for their lives before impact.
