Chittoor: A tragic incident occurred in Punganur town of Annamayya district, where four members of the same family died after allegedly inhaling toxic fumes from a motorcycle left running inside their house overnight.

How the incident happened

The incident took place on Tyagaraju Street in Punganur. According to police and locals, Murali and his wife Revathi live in the house along with Murali’s father Ramachandraiah, son Karthik and twin daughters Charitha and Chandana.

Murali had taken his motorcycle to a mechanic on Saturday for repairs due to an engine issue. After the engine was repaired, the mechanic reportedly advised him to keep the bike running overnight to stabilise the engine.

Following the advice, Murali brought the motorcycle home and left it running inside the house with the doors closed.

Toxic fumes fill the house

On Saturday night, Ramachandraiah and the three children slept in a room inside the house, while Murali and Revathi slept in an upstairs room.

As the house was narrow and poorly ventilated, the exhaust fumes emitted from the motorcycle accumulated inside the room throughout the night. The grandfather and three children allegedly inhaled the toxic fumes while sleeping and died.

Parents escape, children die

Since Murali and Revathi were sleeping in the upstairs room, they escaped the fumes and survived the incident.

The deaths of the grandfather and the three children have left the family and locals in deep shock. The grieving parents were inconsolable after discovering the tragedy.

Police have registered a case, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
