Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Central University (University of Hyderabad or UoH) laptop theft case has been cracked by the Gachibowli Police, with three accused arrested and stolen property worth lakhs recovered.

The accused includes a Kukatpally resident and two students.

Police seized around 60 laptops, along with vehicles and mobile phones used in the crime.

Theft targeted CR Rao AIMSCMS Department

According to police, the theft took place about a week ago at the CR Rao AIMSCMS department on the university campus, a week ago.

The accused allegedly entered the premises past midnight after studying the campus security system and identifying vulnerabilities.

Regula Chandrasekhar (30), a resident of Kukatpally, has been identified as the prime accused. Two others, Sai Charan (19) and Ashwin Rao (19), both students, were also arrested for their involvement. Police sources said another suspect was taken into custody for questioning.

Planned operation, CCTV clues key to arrests

Investigators revealed that the accused had prior knowledge of the university’s surveillance system. They allegedly monitored police movements using CCTV IP access through a mobile phone and changed the car’s number plate to avoid detection.

Special teams tracked the suspects using CCTV footage and technical evidence. The stolen laptops were reportedly transported to Bengaluru to dispose of them.

Seizures and further action

Police recovered approximately 60 laptops from the accused. In addition, one to two cars used in the crime and three mobile phones were seized.

The accused have been remanded to judicial custody. Officials stated that security lapses on the university campus are also being examined, and necessary measures will be taken to prevent such incidents.
