Hyderabad: A gang selling fake Apple iPhone accessories was busted in raids on shops in Jagdish Market under Abids police station. The value of the seized counterfeit goods is more than Rs 2 crores.

The sleuths of the Hyderabad Commissionerā€™s Task Force, Central Zone Team, and staff of Abids PS arrested four persons which included owners of the phone shops.

The accused have been identified as Nimb sing (proprietor of Target mobile shop), Hira Ram (Patel mobile shop), Govind Lal Chauhan (Aushapura mobile shop) and Mukesh Jain of Nandi mobile shop.

The police found that the accused were procuring and selling duplicate mobile accessories of the Apple brand by printing and pasting Apple logos and images on the accessories. This violates the Copyright Act. They were selling the same products as genuine goods to customers and making easy profits.

The seized items included AirPods Pro, USB adaptors and power banks of a combined value of Rs 2,42,55,900.

Modus operandi

The police said the accused were selling mobile phones and accessories in Abids. They were knowingly purchasing duplicate brand accessories from marketing agents, who deal with printing and pasting Apple logos and images on the accessories. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the shop owners procured the fake items from Mumbai.

On Thursday night, the Task Force Central Zone Team and staff of Abids PS raided the shops arrested four persons and seized the contraband. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
