GHMC assistant engineer in Amberpet caught taking Rs 15,000 bribe

Hyderabad: A Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) assistant engineer was arrested on Monday after being caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a complainant.

The officer, identified as T Manisha, is posted at GHMC’s Ward No 2, Nehru Nagar, Golnaka, Amberpet. She allegedly demanded the bribe to process and forward the complainant’s bill files to her superiors, a task that falls under her official duties.

According to ACB officials, this was not the first payment.

Manisha had previously received Rs 5,000 from the same complainant, bringing the total bribe amount to Rs 20,000. During the trap operation conducted by ACB’s City Range-1 unit at around 2 pm, the latest bribe amount was recovered from her possession.

A chemical test confirmed the presence of bribe traces on both her hands. The officer was immediately taken into custody and is being presented before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally.

ACB officials stated that further investigation into the case is ongoing.
