Gold valued Rs 1 cr seized from Dubai flier at Hyderabad airport

By Newsmeter Network Published on 11 Aug 2024 7:06 AM GMTHyderabad: The officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit (HZU), seized gold of around 1.39 kg from a person travelling from Dubai to Hyderabad. The value of the gold seized is more than Rs 1 crore.
According to the case details, on August 9, the DRI officials intercepted a male passenger at RGIA who they suspected of smuggling gold, based on intelligence reports. The passenger was stopped at the exit area of the International Arrival Hall.
The passenger was questioned and his shoes and backpack were scanned. The officials discovered two yellow-coloured large metal bars in the shape of a battery concealed in the left shoe and the other one in the backpack. A yellow-coloured metal chain was also recovered.

The total weight of the recovered gold is 1,390.850 grams valued at Rs 1,00,06,909. The same was seized and the flier was arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is under progress.
