Harassed by husband, in-laws, Vizag woman ends life, poisons 2 daughters

The woman, Sailaja, and her one-year-old younger daughter died while the older daughter survived and is undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Visakhapatnam.
In August 2017, Sailaja, who is from Rajahmundry, married Mohan Krishna, an employee of a private bank and a resident of Vizag city. The couple had two daughters.
At the time of her marriage, Sailaja's parents gave Rs. 5.4 lakhs and over 100 grams of gold ornaments. However, according to a complaint filed by the victim's mother, Sailaja's husband and mother-in-law were harassing her for additional dowry. The harassment intensified when she gave birth to her second daughter.
Unable to bear the harassment, Sailaja poisoned her two daughters and herself on Wednesday night. The trio was admitted to a private hospital at Venkojipalem under MVP Colony police station limits in Vizag city. Sailaja and her younger daughter died on Friday. The elder daughter is out of danger.
In a letter, Sailaja held her husband and mother-in-law responsible for her death.
Based on the complaint, the police booked a case against the husband and his mother under relevant sections for abetment of suicide, dowry death, and others. No arrest has been made so far. A probe is underway, the SHO of MVP Colony, K.S.N Prasad, said.
