Hayathnagar cops bust illegal seeds racket worth Rs 50 L, arrest one
By Newsmeter Network Published on 12 Jun 2021 11:45 AM GMTHyderabad: The Hayathnagar police busted a seeds racket and arrested one person on Friday for the illegal sale of seeds. The police seized seeds and others materials worth Rs. 50 lakhs.
The seized items include 197 bags of paddy seeds, 150 bags of paddy, 28 bags of lentil seeds, 71 bags of castor seeds, and 400 packing covers bearing the name 'Real India Agro Tech'. A sewing machine, seed purifying chemicals, and a weighing machine were also seized.
On 11 June, the Hayathnagar police in coordination with the special branch officials and agriculture officials conducted a surprise raid on a godown located under the limits of Santhi Nagar in Hayathnagar, and arrested Gopal Kamal (60). The accused was storing the seeds illegally in his godown with the intention to sell them to gullible farmers at an exorbitant price.
During the raid, the police also found that Gopal had bought expired seeds from dealers and was modifying the dates and selling them for huge profits. A case under various sections of the IPC and the Essential Commodities Act has been registered.
