Hyderabad: The Jeedimetla Police have arrested a woman who had been impersonating a police constable and illegally participating in high-security VIP bandobast duties at major events across the city.
The accused, Uma Bharathi, had allegedly been moving with official police teams, wearing a full khaki uniform, and even delivering cybercrime awareness lectures before her impersonation was detected.
Failed exam but chose a shortcut
Police said Uma had appeared for the Telangana Police Constable recruitment examination but did not qualify. Despite this, she procured a police uniform, complete with badges, and began presenting herself as a serving constable.
Accessed high-profile security zones
Investigations revealed that Uma participated in multiple large-scale deployments including the inauguration of the Telangana Talli statue at the Secretariat, Khairatabad Ganesh immersion, and several VIP movement security duties.
Her confidence and familiarity with police functioning helped her blend in unnoticed during major public events, the police said.
Moved freely in police campuses
Shockingly, police confirmed that she visited the Cyberabad Police Headquarters, regularly spent time in the canteen, and interacted casually with officers and personnel, creating the impression she was part of the force.
Uma also visited educational institutions and delivered cybercrime awareness sessions, claiming official police association.
Doubt leads to exposure
Uma’s impersonation came to light when police personnel questioned her credentials during a recent security duty.
When she failed to present a valid identity card or service details, officials conducted verification, confirming she was not a member of the police department.
She has since been arrested, and further investigation is underway to determine whether anyone assisted her or whether she managed to gain access on her own, the police added.
