Hyderabad: The Hyderabad commissioner of police, Anjani Kumar, has warned troublemakers ahead of the GHMC elections. The police will keep an eye on rowdy-sheeters to ensure the polls are conducted smoothly, he said on 17 November.

The city police chief held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss security details for the upcoming municipal elections. "Our work during the previous elections was commended and we got a good name. The police play a key role in every stage of the election. Rowdy-sheeters are likely to create fear and conflict so everyone should be on the alert. Our goal is to ensure that the elections are held peacefully without any conflicts or riots," he said.

Special focus should be given to rowdy-sheeters who start riots and do not follow the election rules, he said. "With the coordination of all, we will ensure that the elections go as planned. If private individuals have weapons, we will seize them. According to the instructions of the Election Commission, we will work hard to ensure that the polls in the city are conducted smoothly."

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls will be held on 1 December. State Election Commissioner C. Parthasarathi announced the poll schedule on Tuesday. The counting of votes will take place on 4 December. Candidates can file their nomination papers from 18 to 20 November. The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on 22 November.
