Hyderabad: An eight-year-old boy was crushed to death under the wheels of a military truck in a tragic road accident near RK Puram in Secunderabad on Wednesday.

The victim, Nizen Tamang, a Class II student of Army Public School RK Puram, was travelling with his mother on a two-wheeler to school around 7:30 am.

The duo had set out from their residence at Officers Colony and were just minutes away from the school when the incident occurred on RK Puram Road.

Two-wheeler skids, child comes under truck

According to the police, the two-wheeler, being driven by the child’s mother, Neelang Tamang, and a military truck were moving parallel on the road.

During the ride, the two-wheeler allegedly skidded, causing Neelang to fall. In the chaos that followed, the child slipped under the front wheels of the truck and was run over.

The boy died on the spot, while his mother sustained injuries.

Mother undergoing treatment

Neelang Tamang was rushed to the military hospital at Trimulgherry, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Doctors have stated that her condition is stable.

Father posted in Jammu and Kashmir

The boy’s father, Sangam Tamang, is serving with the Indian Army and is currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir. Police said he was immediately informed about the tragic incident.

Police register case, probe underway

Neredmet Sub-Inspector G Chandrasekhar said the exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined.

“When both vehicles were moving parallel, it is unclear how the two-wheeler skidded. We will re-examine the accident spot to ascertain the precise reasons,” he said.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, the SI added.
